Gold-leaf plaques with the donors' names undulate across a double backdrop of pale porcelain slabs: smooth ones above forming a stylized skyline of Washington that includes the three buildings the congregation has occupied since 1876, and rough ones below suggesting the stone walls of the Old City of Jerusalem.
